Help and shortcuts

Use your skin in Minecraft Bedrock

  1. Press Download skin for a 64 by 64 PNG file. On a phone, Save to Photos puts it straight into your photos, which is where Minecraft on Android looks for it.
  2. In Minecraft, open the Dressing Room from the main menu, then choose Classic Skins from its menu.
  3. Under Owned Skins, select the empty grey skin, then press Choose New Skin.
  4. Pick the PNG, then choose the model type you drew with: classic arms are four pixels wide, slim arms three.

That works on Windows, Android, iPhone and iPad. Consoles can’t import a skin file. For skin packs, texture packs and mods, see how to install them.

The two layers

A skin has a body layer and an outer layer that sits just above it, for hats, hair, hoods, jackets and sleeves. The body layer should cover every pixel; the outer layer can leave pixels empty, and anything empty shows the body underneath. Choose which one you’re painting with Body and Outer at the top of the editor, and hide the outer layer with the eye to see what’s beneath it. On the flat skin, the layer you aren’t painting is dimmed.

Tools for every skin

Pencil, Fill, Eraser and Pick are always at hand. More tools adds Lighten and Darken for shading, Noise for a worn, textured look, and Recolour, which turns every pixel like the one you tap into your colour and keeps its shading, so a pink hoodie becomes a blue one in one tap. Mirror paints both sides of the figure at once, and brushes come in three sizes. Every tool has a keyboard shortcut; press ? in the editor for the list.

Reach every face

Hide a body part to paint what it covers, like the inside of an arm, or pose the figure with its arms out. Turn the figure by dragging beside it, flip it round with one tap, or switch on Turn so every drag turns it. The flat skin zooms up to four times with a pinch or the mouse wheel and names the part and face under your pointer.

Your skins are kept as you go

The editor saves while you paint, and My skins keeps the last 12 you worked on, in this browser only. Nothing is uploaded and there is no account to make.

Start from a finished skin

Every free skin on ModChest has an Edit this skin button that opens it here. Change its colours, add your own details and download it as yours. Or open any 64 by 64 skin file you already have; older 64 by 32 skins are widened to the modern layout. Browse free skins.
